ADA has retained us to recruit and place an experienced, skilled Planned Giving Officer with them.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Planned Giving Officer is responsible for strategically managing, cultivating and soliciting a defined portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors. As an energetic, creative and persuasive front line member of the Planned Giving Team, the Planned Giving Officer is expected to proactively participate in activities that specifically promote the engagement of new planned giving prospects in order to expand the pipeline. Through phone calls, written correspondence and personal appointments the Planned Giving Officer will be expected to meet specific annual goals and objectives. Performance against goals and objectives will be measured by visible real time dashboards. Donor database utilization is crucial for capturing and tracking of activity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategically manages a regional portfolio of planned giving donor prospects, including cultivation, stewardship and solicitation touches through phone calls, written correspondence and personal appointments.
  • Personally follow up on newly identified prospects/leads generated through various marketing channels including PG newsletter, Direct Response, calls to ADA Center for Information and professional magazine ads.
  • Participates in activities that increase identification of new prospects to add to pipeline.
  • Closes a specific number of planned gifts each year to meet specific annual goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with personnel in local offices to cultivate and solicit local donors.
  • Collaborates with personnel in local offices to host planned giving seminars.
  • Utilizes donor database to capture and track all donor interactions in donor management system.
  • Continually deepens knowledge of planned giving and overall donor stewardship and engagement.
  • Travels both locally and overnight within an assigned region.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of nonprofit experience, with a strong track record in planned and major gift solicitation.
  • General knowledge of estate planning, including wills, trusts and estate and gift tax laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet defined annual goals for closed gifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on excellent customer service. Requires a self-motivated person with the utmost integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, editing, and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to relate to older individuals.
  • Ability to organize, set priorities and handle multiple competing tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to continue building knowledge of planned gifts, including tax law changes related to charitable giving.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated strong planning skills, including the ability to anticipate tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and function smoothly under strict deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to travel extensively both local and overnight.
  • Ability to work some weekday evenings and weekends as required.
  • High-level computer literacy skills, including the Microsoft Word and Excel.

Senior Director Planned Giving

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Annual Giving, Special Events and Planned Giving, the Senior Director of Planned Giving assumes the leadership role to design, articulate and implement the strategy and management of the Gift Planning and Blended Gifts program of Children’s Hospital Foundation. The Director will manage fundraising and support staff, developing goals and responsibilities that support the implemented strategy. Working in close collaboration with members of the Annual and Major Gift teams, Foundation Leadership, Hospital staff and volunteers, the Director will have primary responsibility for training, fundraising and marketing initiatives for the program with a focus on growing the newly established Blended Gifts program. As such, the Director and his/her staff will work closely with gift officers to identify opportunities and create proposals to maximize gifts from their prospects. The Director will also have responsibility for managing gift administration for realized bequests and other legacy gifts. The Director maintains a personal portfolio of prospects and is responsible for the cultivation of these prospects from identification to closing and stewardship. The position leads a team with the expectation to raise $3-5 million per year in unrestricted planned gifts and establish and grow a blended gift program in partnership with Major Gifts Team raising $5 million in 2 years.

    • Provide a high level of service to internal and external constituent groups including prospects, donors, professional advisors, board members, volunteers and Children's National leadership.
    • Lead the Planned giving team in working with Foundation gift officers in Annual and Major Gifts to maximize gifts from their portfolios through use of planned giving options in solicitations.
    • Lead training of Major and Annual Gift officers in methods of identifying planned giving prospects.
    • Working with Finance and Legal Departments, administer and track realized and potential bequest income, estates in probate, and other planned gifts benefiting Children's National.
    • Manage a portfolio of individual planned giving prospects and participate personally in their solicitation.

    The Scholarship Foundation is in search of a dedicated, revenue-generating performer with a passion for our military and education to join our team as a Director of Development, to focus on our Florida and West Coast regions. The Director will be responsible for major gifts and planned gifts fundraising efforts in Florida and assist the fundraising efforts on the West Coast. The ideal candidate will integrate planned giving into the broader major giving efforts and will collaborate on efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, record, and steward gifts from prospects whose support can be maximized through gift planning strategies. This position will be based at the office in Alexandria, VA. It reports directly to the Senior Director of Development and works closely with the Chief Development Officer, Regional Directors of Development and CEO, who are based in our Alexandria, VA office and throughout the country.

    Accountable For:

    • Revenue- Conduct 24 successful strategic solicitations and secure at least $1 million in major gift and planned gifts ($50,000+) contributions annually with appropriate quarterly benchmarks established for geographic region and related activities.
    • Investor Relations-Maintain and establish relationships with current and new investors by making a minimum 12-16 visits per month. Possess a demonstrated ability to build relationships with donors and prospects that lead to major gifts and planned gifts. Possess the knowledge and capabilities to effectively communicate the benefits of planned giving opportunities and blended gift strategies to our investors.

    Responsibile For:

    • Project Management- Maintain a portfolio of approximately 150 active prospects in major gifts pipeline. Utilize Raiser’s Edge CRM database to prioritize asks, which will feed into a weekly gift table and calendar report to the Senior Director of Development.
    • New and Existing Growth- Cultivate and increase our major gifts donor base in the Florida and the West Coast Region through networking, face-to-face meetings, and substantive phone conversations.
    • Collaboration with Events- Work with internal events staff, external event consultants, and event committee chairs to garner major gift prospects and maintain current investor involvement.
    • Performance Metrics- Utilize Raiser’s Edge to manage, track, and report on all activities related to identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation; and prospect meetings, gifts, pledges.
    • Proposals and Agreements- Utilize prescribed proposals and agreements to confirm and close gifts and pledges. Documents presented to investors must be approved by the Senior Director of Development and other leadership as needed.
    • Organizational Representation- Adhere to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation core values and commitments.
    • Team Meetings- Participate in all development team phone-calls/Web-Ex presentations (at least bi-weekly) and in-person team gatherings in Virginia (at least four times/year).

    Requirements Include:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Must possess at least 4+ years of experience in non-profit development or the equivalent outside face-to-face sales experience with proven revenue results
    • Ability to communicate and establish a positive rapport with key C-level executives, experienced philanthropists, charitable foundations, corporations, and senior-level individuals
    • Ability to travel 50-60% of time

    Primary Function:

    Working under the supervision of the Planned Giving Operations Officer, the Planned Giving Specialist is part of the Planned Giving Team. Responsibilities include the maintenance and enhancement of a comprehensive program for Life Income Gifts including Charitable Gift Annuities and Pooled Income Fund Gifts. This position also works with Bequest Estate Administration in a limited capacity with regards to Irrevocable Trusts and Beneficiary Designations and may process other basic bequests as assigned.

    Job Responsibility:

    • Oversight and management of CRS Life Income Gifts including responding to phone and letter inquiries concerning CRS Charitable Gift Annuities or Pooled Income Funds, prepare CGA illustrations, and prepare CGA agreements.
    • Work closely with M&T Bank, financial planners, and attorneys to bring gifts to closure.
    • Implement Stewardship acknowledgment opportunities for Life Income Gift Donors to include phone calls, written correspondence, and Donor visits as scheduled with supervisor.
    • Maintain all related records in ClearView and GiftWrap software (coordinated with M&T Investment Group).
    • Process Beneficiary Designation Bequests received by CRS including the completion of all necessary forms and communication.
    • As assigned, manage Irrevocable Trust assets including necessary communications with trusts, and updating status and value of irrevocable trusts on a quarterly basis.
    • As assigned, process estate bequests including monitoring the will through probate, proactively follow up with estate attorneys/executors to ensure timeliness and accuracy of distributions, and prepare acknowledgment letters.
    • Works collaboratively with other PG Specialist to ensure timeliness in processing of all distributions.
    • Complete approved accrual process as needed.
    • Ensure all PG policies and procedures are followed, and compliance is clearly documented.
    • Identify, recommend and implement business process improvements associated with Planned Giving.
    • Provide cross-training to other Charitable Giving staff on all aspects of Life Income gifts.
    • Cross-train with other Planned Giving staff in order to respond to donor inquiries and provide backup for the administration of such gifts.
    • Stay current regarding CRS programming, news, and world events.
